by Gerard J. Surprenant

Permit me to tell you about my vacations
Which have covered a wide spectrum of interest,
From travels around historic Civil War battlefields;
Trying to understand why we are the way we are,
To trips abroad around literary Ireland;
Trying to understand why they are the way they are.
Yet, the vacations I remember most,
Filled my childhood summers
With carefree dreams and endless games;
With sunlight basking and moonlight gazing;
With woodland walks and long meanderings.
They zigzag through my self, helping me understand
Why I am the way I am.
