Forward My Soul
by Gerard J. Surprenant
As the light of day, with outstretched hand,
Gently touches my darkened eyes,
And dew drops sparkle from the rose
To greet the morn with crimson shine.
When trees hold sway to feathered chorus
In gleeful greetings to the day,
I feel my youth. My joy surrenders
To the start of new adventures.
Allow me to smile a bit each day.
Give me strength to find the way.
For if I can no longer sense
The glory of the coming day,
Then move me out, and take me away.
Forward my soul to open gates
Lead me onward to that quiet place
Where ecstasy for all awaits.
